Q&A with the Artist
Q: How would you characterize your work?

Brian: The Beauty of Nature is unparalleled. To be able to capture it completely is not possible. But when you strive to capture it, and come close to perfection, the results are breathtaking. Many people I know and have met through my art have expressed feelings of joy and admiration in viewing my art. I invite all who are interested to come experience the pleasure.

Q: What is your favorite medium and why? What is your range of mediums?

Brian: My favorite medium is colored pencil, because of the detail that can be captured with its use. I have been more involved with oils lately, and have been pleasantly surprised that I can still capture a lot of the detail I desire, while enjoying the vivid color that oils create.

Q: Where have you studied art? Where have you exhibited work?

Brian: I've studied at West Valley College, and have taken courses at the Pacific Art League, and have read several books on pencil and oil mediums. I have exhibited my work at several Heart of Chaos and Pacific Art League shows. My work "Red Eyed Tree Frog" won the best of show in one of the Heart of Chaos contests.

Q: What is your favorite work? And what is your favorite response from others to your work?

Brian: My current favorite work is my oil creation titled "Orchids". It is created from a picture I took in the San Francisco Golden gate park flower gardens. The contrasts in it really inspires me, I've always been a big fan of art that captures contrasts. My favorite response came from one of my early colored pencil drawings of the Wupatki Village ruins in Arizona. I was carrying the picture down an isle and a friend said, "oh that's really neat, I like to take photos too"!

Q: Where are you going now? What direction is calling you?

Brian: I'm going to focus more on oils, they are taken more seriously in the art world, and I foresee more success by taking this direction. I'd like to become more creative, and start to get involved in some light fantasy type works that can show ideas that are in my head. I need to get better at portraits and human subjects.
